NOTE:
Each jaeger can have a multi-use design, being outfitted for more than one use. Being long-range does not mean that they don't run solo missions or grapple with kaiju on occasion, it simply means they may be more prone to damage. Jaegers may often have 'hybrid' designs for the sake of safety, such as a long range having retractable blades in case their long range weapons fail.
BRAWLER:
Designed for close-range combat with kaiju, traditionally heavier and taller than traditional jaegers. Brawler jaegers are most often capable of locking joints or locking their feet so that they can hold a struggling kaiju in place for another team to attack, or in some cases simply crush the kaiju with their brute strength. They boast larger generator cores, which means a larger soft spot if a kaiju lands a lucky blow, but are in general very hardy. Most common deployment: Assists with another jaeger.

CLOSE-RANGE COMBAT:
Similar to the brawler style jaegers, close range jaegers are designed to be sturdy but unlike the brawlers, they are far more mobile. These jaegers shed some of the heavy armor worn by brawlers and trade it in for faster reflexes, high-range joints and often rely on retractable blades in combat. Sometimes referred to as 'fang style' jaegers, they have sharp blades that pierce kaiju hides, sometimes accented with propulsion rockets in their joints for strength and speed and short range missals for emergencies.

MID-RANGE COMBAT:
Outfitted with missals, mid-range jaegers are meant to hang back a bit and provide support fire for close-range jaegers. When the kaiju is weakened, or the close combat jaeger is damaged, mid-range jaegers move in to finish the kill or replace the close range jaeger. So, the fill two roles: distance fire (although much shorter than long range) and can float in as close combat jaegers in a pinch. They are versatile and typically the most common style of jaeger, particularly for group missions.

LONG-RANGE COMBAT:
Long-range jaegers, while uncommon, are highly useful during group missions. Their purpose: provide complete cover fire for their team. They can be at varying distances depending on individual design and provide support fire in the form of rockets and occasionally fire flares to provide better visuals for their team and the helicopter teams monitoring the battle. They manage communication between teammates by being the 'all seeing eyes' of sorts, providing warnings of approaching kaiju, communicating with the comm-pod and providing navigational support to coordinate their team around the kaiju. They are highly useful and ideal for missions farther out into the Pacific due to their navigational prowess.
