THE SETTING Shatterdome 13 was built off the shore of Chile on a large, craggy island. The compound takes up over 90% of the island, leaving small stretches of rocky beach untouched. Reever Island is several miles from shore, requiring a half-hour helicopter ride from the mainland.
The jaeger bay contains docking stations for thirty jaegers, and has bunks enough for full teams for each station. Bunks are organized by occupation, and all connect with the training rooms at one end. Within the training rooms are a small running track, a pool, and two weight rooms.
Its infirmary and labs are state-of-the-art, each allotted large work spaces. Their proximity to the sprawling mess hall does not seem to encourage their staff to remember their meals. Nor does the presence of the recreation rooms on the other side of the mess seem to coax them from their domains.
Rising above it all is the Command Pod. The heart of the Shatterdome is a large spire with an excellent view of the Pacific Ocean. Inside is a plethora of communication, monitoring and tracking technology; the first six floors overlook the jaeger bay.
